Datetime:2024-04-10    Comefrom:Oncology Laboratory

On April 9, 2024, Professor Edward Tate from Imperial College London was invited to our hospital for an academic exchange visit and lecture. More than 50 researchers and graduate students attended the lecture, which was hosted by Dean Xu Bo.

Professor Edward Tate is a faculty member in the Department of Chemical Biology, Department of Chemistry at Imperial College London. His research group explores the biological mechanisms related to disease occurrence using emerging interdisciplinary tools from chemical biology and chemical proteomics. He has published over 140 papers in Nature and its sister journals and has led more than 40 projects in the past five years. He serves as an editor for journals such as Cell Chemical Biology, Molecular Omics, and Biochemical Journal. Due to his outstanding contributions in the field of chemical biology, he has received multiple international awards. Additionally, Professor Edward Tate has collaborated with several internationally renowned pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies such as Novartis, AstraZeneca, and Pfizer. His research group is one of the few in the world that has successfully applied lipid probe labeling strategies to analyze enzyme activity and post-translational modifications of the entire proteome.

The Oncology Laboratory, in collaboration with the Scientific Research and Training Center, organized this event. Dean Xu Bo presided over the meeting. Professor Edward Tate presented a comprehensive lecture titled "Protein lipidation: from chemical biology to drug discovery," covering the research progress in this field from basic theory to applied research. He shared the latest research findings of his group through rich experimental data and discussed the use of chemical proteomics techniques for large-scale analysis of protein lipids, as well as the use of chemical probes to target Hedgehog signaling. The audience actively participated in interactive question-and-answer sessions focusing on research details and further discussed the progress and ideas of related scientific research topics after the meeting. Professor Edward Tate expressed his affirmation of our institute's scientific research atmosphere. Finally, Dean Xu Bo presented a souvenir to Professor Edward Tate and took a group photo.
