Located at the foot of the Gele Mountain by the Jialing River, the hospital was founded in 1943. There are 1,850 beds and 43 clinical and medical technical departments, including 1 national key speciality, 4 provincial key disciplines, 10 provincial clinical key specialties and 3 provincial clinical treatment centers. The hospital is a postdoctoral research station approved by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, a joint training base of "Belt and Road Initiative" international tumor prevention and treatment, an authorized unit for doctoral degree in biological engineering of Chongqing University, an authorized unit for master's degree in clinical medicine of Chongqing University, an authorized unit for master's degree in basic medicine of Chongqing University, a national standardized training base for resident physicians, and a training base for oncology nurses in Chongqing. It has built a complete teaching system for interns, trainees, residents, masters, doctors and post-docs. The hospital has established the tumor precision medicine research center, built a shared platform for basic and translational research, constructed a tissue specimen library and a gene sequencing platform with high standards. It has the ability to carry out analysis at cellular, protein and gene level, and built the Chongqing Key Laboratory of Translational Research on Tumor Metastasis and Individualized Diagnosis and Treatment, Chongqing Engineering Research Center of Tumor Clinical Multi-omics Big Data Application, Chongqing Tumor Individualized Drug Use Detection Collaborative Innovation Center. In the past five years, the hospital has undertaken 475 longitudinal research projects at all levels including the National Natural Science Foundation of China, 371 clinical trial projects under research, 3 second-class awards of Chongqing Science and Technology Progress, 1 second-class award of China Anti-Cancer Association, 22 authorized invention patents and 94 utility model patents, edited and participated in the formulation of 63 standards, guidelines and consensus of National Cancer Center, Chongqing Municipal Health and Health Commission and other departments, and published 36 monographs, 322 SCI papers with the highest IF of 19.233.

In recent years, the hospital has actively practised multidisciplinary joint consultation and the practice of chief expert in charge of tumor diagnosis and treatment, and formed a comprehensive diagnosis and treatment system with distinctive features such as tumor surgery treatment, tumor medical treatment, tumor radiation treatment, tumor immunotherapy, tumor palliative treatment, and combined Chinese and western medicine treatment. The hospital focuses on building a precision tumor treatment platform, including a precision surgical platform, with 2 composite operating rooms equipped with intraoperative slide CT, intraoperative DSA and intraoperative radiotherapy, and a fourth-generation da Vinci surgical robot. The precision diagnostic platform has complete tumor diagnostic equipment such as PET/CT and dual source CT, Siemens Prisma 3.0T MRI, etc. It is equipped with tumor molecular bio-diagnostic platforms such as circulating tumor cell detection (CTC) and PGM high-throughput gene sequencing, which provide strong technical support for comprehensive treatment of tumor surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, individualized treatment based on precision medicine and basic and translational tumor research.

In recent years, the hospital adheres to the core culture of "Pursue Kindness and Progress, Respect Virtue and Knowledge", and actively builds a "One network and One chain" tumor prevention and treatment system. In Chongqing and surrounding areas, it has built a collaborative and integrated tumor prevention and treatment system with Chongqing University Cancer Hospital as the core, secondary hospitals as the hub and primary medical institutions as the focus, and has initially built a three-level tumor prevention and treatment system covering 10 secondary tumor hospitals, 27 tumor standardized treatment bases, 5 single disease specialty alliances, 57 medical collaborative hospitals and a total of 94 tumor speciality alliance members. It has formed a complete tumor diagnosis and treatment service chain covering tumor registration, popularization of science, early screening, standardized treatment and rehabilitation management, implemented the whole process management model and concept, formulated unified whole process management norms and pathways, and realized homogeneous services of network units.

During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, Chongqing University Cancer Hospital will focus on the Health China Strategy and the construction of Chengdu-Chongqing twin-city economic circle, combine the healthcare planning of Chongqing and the "double first-class" construction plan of Chongqing University, and uphold the core culture of "dedication, integrity, pragmatism and innovation" and the core culture of "Pursue Kindness and Progress, Respect Virtue and Knowledge".
