The Department of Ultrasound Medicine

The Department of Ultrasound Medicine was founded in 1981 and is one of the earliest departments in Chongqing to carry out clinical ultrasound examinations. After nearly 40 years of development, it has become an important professional medical technology department that integrates ultrasound clinical diagnosis and treatment, scientific research and teaching, and is a standardized training base for residents of ultrasound medicine in China.

There are currently more than 50 medical and nursing staff members in the department, including 3 senior professional and technical personnel, 12 attending physicians, 16 graduate students, and 3 nurses for interventional operation. The department currently has 31 sets of imported advanced ultrasound systems, such as Sonac Acoustic, Toshiba Aplio400, Philips iu22, Hitachi Erlangshen, and BK2202 intraoperative ultrasound systems. There are currently 26 ultrasound examination rooms.

The department has complete ultrasound diagnosis items, comprehensive diagnosis technology, and solid basic skills. It has carried out ultrasound examinations of various parts of the body, multiple organs, and various diseases. The department serves as the leading unit of the National Urban Cancer Ultrasound Screening Project in Chongqing, and is also the cooperative department of multiple GCP projects in the hospital. It undertakes daily diagnosis and treatment such as ultrasound, bedside, emergency treatment, intensive care, physical examination, intraoperation, angiography and interventional ultrasound.

In addition to conventional ultrasound examinations, the department has developed a variety of new ultrasound examination technologies, such as contrast-enhanced ultrasound examinations of tumors, which are mainly used in abdominal parenchymal organs (such as liver and kidney), and transluminal scanning of pelvic organs (such as prostate, uterus, and ovaries etc.), tumor diagnosis and differential diagnosis of superficial organs (such as thyroid, breast sentinel lymph nodes and other organs), interventional diagnosis and guidance of tumors, and evaluation of curative effects after tumor treatment. At the same time, the department has also carried out ultrasound elastography of multiple organs and tumors, which is mainly used for the diagnosis and intervention guidance of breast, thyroid, transvaginal uterus and ovarian, prostate and liver organ tumors. In addition, the department also has a series of new technologies such as interventional ultrasound, critical ultrasound, intraoperative ultrasound, and transesophageal ultrasound, which have greatly improved the accordance rate of clinical diagnosis of tumor diseases, ensured the quality of medical care, and the progress and development of medical technical level.

The department is committed to the applied research of multimodal ultrasound imaging technology in the early standardized screening and early diagnosis of tumors, in the evaluation of curative effects, and in the collection and use of big data. Currently, the department has participated in 3 national first-class multi-center research projects, 1 project from Chongqing Municipal Commission of Health and Family Planning, 9 new technologies, and published several SCI and domestic core journal papers.
